I was offered this grant during the period I was completing my thesis work at HMS. The project I was working on was perfecting the protocol to using circularized human DNA in Next Generation Sequencing. This technology is magnitudes cheaper than current NGS technology, while also being more efficient. CEGS is a program designed to analyze the wealth of data that has been generated by the Human Genome Project. It is affiliated with the NIH. This experience helped me secure funding for a start-up venture of mine. I was one of 7 individuals selected to present my start-up company. Venture capitalists from all over South America had traveled to America for this presentation. I gave a brief 10-minute power point presentation to an audience of approximately 200. It was a great experience because I had to configure the presentation to have all the information in a short period of time. It also introduced me to the ways of presenting my… Show more

I was working with Next Generation Sequencing technology, which offers a high throughput for genomic sequencing in much shorter time length than conventional Sanger sequencing. The goal of my project was to use this technology to help further a multiplex pathogen detection technology. My task was to set up quality control experiments, design molecular inversion probes, and create a library of pathogenic genomic DNA. Show less
