Microsoft Azure offers a variety of database services that are secure, enterprise-grade, and fully managed. There's also support for open-source database engines and self-hosted implementations. We'll explore some of these options. Azure SQL Database is a fully managed database engine. It falls in the platform as a service category. It handles most of the database management functions such as upgrading, patching, backups, and monitoring without user involvement. It's ideal for modern cloud native applications due to its fast provisioning, scalability, and elasticity on the database capacity.
