- You know how it feels to walk on sand? It's a little bit taxing and a little uncomfortable. You don't feel as confident taking each step because the ground underneath you isn't giving you the safety that you need in order to move forward easily. However, when you hit the concrete, when the foundation is solid and the earth underneath you feels a lot more stable, your confidence comes back. You feel taller. You feel safe. Now, this is a metaphor for collaborative connection. For that to be successful, we need to be asking two types of questions, closed and open. So closed questions are to really nail down the facts. They are asking very specific correct things and require simple answers. And these questions generally begin with who, what, where, and when. Some examples are, what time is the meeting? Who else is on the project? When is our next phase due? Where exactly can we make improvements? Closed questions provide clarity, open questions encourage deeper, more meaningful…
