- Before going into the details of search engine reconnaissance, I want to show you a real hands-on demonstration of a Google search, or Google dorking in this context. I'll open up my Google and type the following in the search. With this query, I'm surfacing results of people working or people who have worked in the targeted company and of course other related content. As you can see, the search structure is somewhat complex but hopefully to the point I wish to make here. Now to get back to our slides. Search engine reconnaissance refers to the process of using publicly available search engine to gather intelligence on a target, be it a person, organization, or a system. Search engines like Google indexes billions of webpages, making them rich sources of data that can be mined for information.
