Feed the brain, then give it time to digest
- You're at dinner, talking with friends about an old movie. You remember one of the actors, but as much as you try, you just can't think of her name. The more you try, the more the name escapes you. Then a half hour later, once the conversation has moved on to other topics, the name suddenly pops into your head. We've all had something like this happen. It's a peek behind the curtain of how the brain works. Most of what goes on in the mind happens outside of conscious thought. In this case, even though the conversation had moved on, your brain was still working in the background. When the brain figured out the answer, it popped into your head. Similarly, great ideas may not always happen consciously. Sometimes they'll germinate in the background and then pop into your head, sometimes called the aha moment. Now, a lot of things in the body work this way. We don't have to consciously think about breathing. It happens…
