- When you ask creative people how they came up with their ideas, they often don't know. To them, it just seemed obvious. That's because they're usually drawing from a lifetime of work and experience to help make creative connections. Creativity is often about connecting the dots. You take things that aren't normally connected and put them together. The combination creates something new. Here's an example. Let's say you want dessert. All you have are some blueberries, heavy cream, and a box of biscuit mix. Now, if you knew absolutely nothing about cooking, you might resort to eating just the berries. But you have a base of knowledge. Your mom taught you how to make whipped cream. Experience taught you to add ingredients to biscuit mix. So you add some extra butter and sugar, mix, then bake, top with the berries and whipped cream, and now you have fresh blueberry shortcake. Now, this happened because you have a…
