- [Narrator] For Power Pivot to work effectively, the data you bring into your model must be well structured. By this I mean organized into rows and columns, making it feasible to query and analyze. Given I'm demonstrating Power Pivot using a CSV file, we can easily review the data first before we attempt to import it. So, with Excel Desktop open, click on Open, and then navigate to the exercise file pack for this course, which you should have downloaded and extracted onto your desktop. At this screen here, you'll probably need to change the dropdown box for the file type and change the selection from all Excel files to all files. This will mean that we can view CSV files. The one we're looking for is called "02_01BuildingPermits." Select that file and then open it. Okay, great. The data here appears to be arranged in a structured format with the information organized into rows and columns. The kind of things to check for are inconsistencies with each of the records.
