- Roman struggled in his new role as executive director in a hybrid environment. Roman had several underperforming employees and he was conflicted about what to do. Conflict in the department gained momentum because of Roman's identity, which drove his behaviors. Roman viewed himself as a nice leader, not aggressive and overpowering like some leaders before him. When everyone worked on-site, Roman was known for covering for employees instead of addressing issues head-on. Roman's behavior was based on his view of himself, his leadership identity. Roman was a best-friend leader. He wanted employees to like him. He didn't want to upset anyone, so he either avoided or appeased his employees.
