I remember one of the first SEO jobs I bid for as a consultant. I had massively misjudged the amount of time it would take to make ALT text for image files on my client's website. Also known as alternative text tags, ALT tags are an attribute used in HTML to describe the appearance and function of an image on a webpage. What they do is provide a text-based alternative to images for visually-impaired users who rely on screen readers. When a screen reader encounters an image, it reads out the ALT text, helping the user understand what the image depicts or its purpose. This may sound like a time-consuming job, but today I can do this quickly and easily. The first benefit of ALT tags is that they also help search engines understand what an image is about, which can improve the relevance of a webpage in search results.
