- Okay, let's talk about choosing your software. Now, a few things you need to do is assess your needs, like what is the size of your company, how many different types of assets are you looking to categorize and track, and how many assets in total? Are they local or remote? Maybe they're servers or conference rooms, or even mobile devices. What does licensing look like? Cellular and IP phone contracts. Choosing the tools that you will use is really important. Now, there's kind of three or four different ways that you can go with this. You can, of course, go at the industry leaders or take a look at Gartner and Forrester for recommendations. We'll talk about that in a few minutes. My favorite, ask your peers. So here's what we're going to do. I'm going to do a demo. We're going to build our own asset management system using Microsoft List.
