Create a project

- [David] Well, so far, if you've been following along, our focus has been mostly on teams. The nice thing about creating teams ahead of time is that we can now think about projects. To create a new project, we can do it within the team so all team members are part of that project. We can also create projects outside of a team and invite people to that project, two scenarios we're going to explore right now. You can see I'm logged back in as myself. There's my icon at the top, David Rivers at red30tech.com. I do have a banner showing up across the top of my home screen here, and in fact, if I switch to a different screen, for example, if I go down to the Corporate Events team and click there, I see that banner because someone has made a request to join, in this case, Corporate Events, and I have a button at the top that I can click to review and approve or deny, or I can dismiss this by clicking the X and get back to it later. Right now, I'm going to take care of this by clicking Review and Approve. I have two options. Approve Jayden Williams request or deny it. I think that Jayden Williams, who is an events planner should be part of this team. I'll click approve and you can see down below, Jayden Williams has been added to the Corporate Events team. We can close up that pop-up message at any time. Now, it'll refresh the next time we go back to Home and then back down to the Corporate Events team. You can see now she's a member along with the three of us, myself, Laura, and Steve. All right, so we have our members. We have our Corporate Events team. What we don't have is an actual project going on. Notice from here we have a dropdown to Create work. You can see a New team project is an option or a new template. This is where we go to create a new project where automatically all the members of this team will be part of that project. We can also go over to Corporate Events in the left hand side, in the navigation pane and choose Create project from here. Let's go ahead and click Create Project. We get some options now, we can start from scratch with a blank project or we can use a template with the free version. Your options are very limited. You can even import a spreadsheet from another tool. We're going to start from scratch by choosing Blank project, and now it's time to give it a name. This one is going to be the Maker's Conference 2025. You can see I can select a team now because I was looking at Corporate Events, they're automatically part of this project, but clicking the dropdown looks like I have a Maker's Conference team here for 2025 already, so I can switch to it if I want to, just like that and click Continue. Now it's time to choose a default board. You can see all of these boards are available to us. There's an Overview, Board view, Dashboard, List, and Timeline. If there's a view you don't want, you can simply remove it by clicking it. Click it again to bring it back. As long as you see the check mark, you'll be able to choose from them across the top. Notice the preview here on the right hand side. As you hover over these, there's what the Overview will look like. The Board view looks like cards and columns that can be moved around. There's the Dashboard with some reporting, totally customizable. The List and the Timeline views. So I'm going to keep all of these views and you can see down below some reports as well that we can leave as part of our default project here, which is our Maker's Conference 2025. All we have to do now is click Create project and it's created for the team that we selected from the project. So we have our first project created. Another option is just to go to the projects here where we see our existing Makers Conference project, along with the one that was created during the signup process, the Annual Trade Show, and a plus sign to create a new project. Let's go ahead and select New project. Again, we have the same three options. Blank project is where we're going to go. How about the Holiday Party? That's something that needs to be planned. I think Corporate Events is the right team for this one. So we'll leave Corporate Events selected and Continue. Again, I'm going to keep all of these, I don't know if we need the Gantt chart. Maybe we do. Notes for sure. The calendar's going to be important, and I think Gantt is not necessary, neither is workload. You can see the check marks are the ones that are going to be included. And again, we can always go back and make changes after the fact. This is just to help us get started. Click Create project to create that project with that team. So that's all there is to creating a project. Now, eventually projects will come and go and you'll need to know how to delete projects. We'll talk about that one next.
