- In the previous video, we looked pretty in-depth at shutter speed and talked a little bit about aperture. I want to go a little bit deeper on aperture and also talk about setting your ISO because those three elements are the golden triangle for how your image may look. So when it comes to aperture, the smaller the aperture, which is the higher the number, the greater your depth of field. So if I'm shooting a portrait, I want to make sure that I have enough light that Ian's nose, his ear, his chin is all in focus so I don't want to really narrow depth of field. So I want to make sure that my aperture is set to say something like 5.6, nice safe aperture. If I have a lot of motion, like if he's moving back and forth or I'm doing some sort of a athletic or sports shot, I may want that to even be higher, say F11 or F16 and that's going to really widen my depth of field.
