Pronunciation feature
- Culp, coop, cow poop. With a last name like Kaupe, trust me, I have heard it all. I get it. I have a really hard last name. And if you're like me, you, too, may have a hard-to-pronounce last name or hard-to-pronounce first name. Remember, what's easy for you is not easy for everybody else because we all have different first languages, which is why I am so excited about the LinkedIn pronunciation feature. Let's walk through how to do this together. But first, I'm going to need you to grab your mobile device because unfortunately, this doesn't work on desktop. So you're going to need one of these. Grab your phone and let's walk through this together. Once you've grabbed your phone, open up your LinkedIn app and tap on your profile photo. From there, click on View Profile. Once that's open, tap the edit icon from your Introduction section. Tap record and get ready for your name pronunciation. If you've already recorded your name, you can tap the edit icon or delete or replace the existing recording. But if this is new to you, we're going to do it from the start. Tap the recording button and hold it down while you pronounce your name. Remember, you can always redo this. What's important is that you get a clean first cut. Once you're happy and you've previewed the recording, tap the Use button. You can also retake it if you need to. Next, tap Save. Your recording will display next to your name in your Introduction section. Remember that you're total recording time is 10 seconds. So you're going to want to limit the background noise. Speak slowly and pronounce each syllable clearly. Two pro tips. First, when you're recording your name, put the phone about four inches away from your mouth. I had to do this a few times and I found that that worked really well. And second, as you're navigating your life, going on meetings, jumping on conference calls, make sure to check people's LinkedIn profiles. Maybe they have the pronunciation feature turned on. That way you know that you're saying somebody's name right from the start.
