Preparing for the first meeting as an external resource

- If you're external, you won't have ready access to as much information about the person you are meeting. But the metaphor to keep in mind is a job interview. Go on LinkedIn. Spend some time on search engines. As an added responsibility, you have to learn about the company too. So, what are some of the things that you're looking for? Well, what's their title? Try to figure out who they report to. It might take a couple of guesses to figure that out. Have they or their boss recently had a change in role? You won't have time to digest all of this in the meeting, but this way, if they make a comment like, "We've restructured the team recently," you are more likely to be able to handle that clue in real time. Now, why all of this focus on the organizational chart? It's fairly simple actually. Who's going to be watching you? And who's going to be judging you when it's over?
