Creating a program charter
- Once your business case is approved, you need to create a formal program charter. This is a one-page summary of the program. It includes the program statement, the strategic goals the program is tied to, the scope, a high-level roadmap of major events, known risks, and key personnel. This document will become the program team's constitution and be referenced throughout the life of the program. Let's take a look at one together. You can find this example charter in the exercise files. In the header, you should have your program name, and in the footer, the date of your program kickoff event. In the upper left, write out the problem statement. If your program is related to a merger or acquisition, point out redundant systems, processes, and data. If your program's related to a software change, include obsolete technology and slow processes. Next, tie your program to the strategic goals you listed in your business case.
