What do you need to protect your well-being?
When I'm overloaded with demands, I often find myself asking, "What do I need to do here? What do I need to achieve just so I can get on top of these demands?" Now these are valid questions helpful at the right time, but when demand overload is the problem, I learned to start with a much simpler and more effective question. When I ask myself, "What do I need?" Just a few brief check in moments every day. Tuning in to thoughts, emotions, and physiological signals can give us data to help us decide what resources we need to equip ourselves with for the rest of that day and beyond. A walk in the fresh air might shift your energy state. Quick chat with a friend might help you discard some negative thought patterns or give you a boost from the powers of social connection. Interoception is how neuroscientists describe our ability to tune in to what's going on inside our bodies.
