- As you practice, you're going to naturally develop your style, you're going to naturally develop your persona, and that's what you need to do right now, is you need to find yourself because you're best as a speaker when you're authentic, when you're just being true to who you really are. So for example, if you're really good with the numbers but you're a little bit awkward, that's not a bad thing 'cause people can identify with you. They see themselves in you. So you want to let your true self come out, and you can look for role models that maybe represent parts of what you'd like to be in terms of how you present. This great speaker told me once, he said he studies standup comedians, and I asked him why he did that, and he said, "Well I can use some of their presentation techniques. I can use how they tell stories. I can see their stage presence and how they do it, and I can adapt some of that to what I do."…
