BDO USA to merge with Horne LLP, expanding in Southeast

🔍 Big news in the accounting world BDO USA is set to combine with Top-100 firm Horne, in what's being called BDO’s largest expansion ever. The deal, expected to close on November 1, will bring Horne’s ~1,300 employees (including 30 principals) into the fold — across assurance, tax, advisory, and more. Here’s what this means: ~ BDO strengthens its presence in several South & Southeastern states, plus Puerto Rico, by building on Horne’s geographic reach. ~ Their combined government services capabilities get a major boost — especially for state/local government support, disaster recovery, and federal program compliance. ~ The merger also underscores both firms’ shared values, particularly with BDO’s employee ownership model (ESOP) and its strong commitment to the community. Eversheds Sutherland has hired McDermott Will & Schulte’s head of tax to its London office. Kevin Cummings moves on from McDermott after five years. Before that he worked as a tax partner at Deloitte according to his LinkedIn profile. McDermott Will & Schulte was formed last month following the $2.8 billion merger between McDermott Will & Emery and New York firm Schulte Roth and Zabel. In the weeks since, the firm has seen some partners exit the combined firm. Disputes partner Michael Darowski joined Reed Smith earlier this week while partners in the U.S. and Germany have left the firm. The firm has, however, recruited Ira Shacter to head up the firm’s financial services practice following a move from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft.
