Growing up in merchandising, I learned to be obsessed with data. I poured over transaction logs. Scrutinized my instocks. Tweaked every planogram to maximize holding power and shelf fit, while trying to balance expanding assortment depth and breadth. But time and again, no matter which metric I used—sales, receipts, open to buy, instocks—the true execution that mattered was what was actually happening on the shelf. And too often, I was blind to the real availability of products for customers. That’s why I joined Simbe.
