🔥 Major companies reframing, not abandoning, DEI "While firms scaled back DEI language and commitments, 79% percent of S&P 500 firms disclosed board committee oversight of DEI, up from 72%, according to the report. For Russell 3000 companies, this figure jumped from 48.4% to 86.8%. "Rather than simply abandoning DEI, this suggests that companies are being more cautious about external messaging while integrating DEI into governance to make it more legally defensible, according to the report" from the The Conference Board Lauren Shenkman reported for ESG Dive https://lnkd.in/gqy_FZNw

How important is this Nancy Levine Stearns? Maybe I'm a naive optimist, but perhaps this is a signal that firms are following those that have doubled down and galvanised shareholders behind DEI (and have seen subsequent upticks in revenue). I touched upon this dynamic in a recent post: "DEI has reached an inflection point. As its flaws are exposed, organizations can make an active choice to move toward systemic change. The most effective firms will shift from representational metrics to holistic, learning-driven strategies that unleash human value." https://stuartwoollard.substack.com/p/beyond-dei-inclusive-firms-emerge
