On Friday, I was delighted to tour Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, the largest gang rehab and reentry programme in the world. I’ve been desperate to visit since hearing its founder, Fr Greg Boyle SJ, speak in Belfast earlier this year. In one of his books, he describes it like this: “Homeboy receives people; it doesn’t rescue them. In being received rather than rescued, gang members come to find themselves at home in their own skin.” As one of the homies I met put it: “that motherf*cker should be a saint”. Churchill Fellowship
Fr. Boyle is an everyday angel. His book Tattoos on the Heart is a great read on compassion, community, and the inherent worth of every.single. person. Powerful change happens when people feel truly seen and heard. I’d love to visit here someday. There are also some great interviews with Fr Boyle online from the past 15 years!
I hope to one day visit this place. Very inspiring place. A place of compassion and kinship.
I visited in 2023. It was on my list. My daughter came. We went to a morning meeting. This place is transforming lives. A true game changer for so many. Human compassion and love at work.
💯! Wish I was on site Friday to meet you - would love to connect!!
There needs to be more re entry centers like this all over the USA!
🙌
Amazing work in their little corner of the universe! It’s always worth a visit!
I believe Father Boyle is a guardian angel to the community.
