What Happens in the Brain When We Experience Art? When people engage with art that feels meaningful to them, the brain’s default mode network, associated with self-reflection and inward focus, becomes active. This activation shows that art appreciation is not just about perceiving shapes, colors, or sounds, but also about connecting them to personal meaning. This APA Monitor on Psychology article underscores how deeply art shapes human thought, emotion, and identity. Neuroaesthetics research demonstrates that both emotional and cognitive processes are at play, weaving together perception, memory, and self-awareness. Aesthetic experiences may promote positive outcomes such as empathy, social connection, and cross-cultural understanding. I appreciate seeing more and more validity connected to art and well-being. The impacts are expansive and far reaching for all!
having had the privilege to working with trained and certified Art Therapists, and Dance/Movement Therapists and my work in Psychodrama, I support the arts and also those who professionally use these therapeutically. I challenge all parents to have the creative arts within their home and with their children and especially to be sure the arts are being included in their child's curriculum..
Im going to read the article but also sharing that I especially like the Paul Klee painting that is shown here with the link!
Every color affects the brain Even blind people feel differently in red versus blue rooms etc Fascinating! C from the Cabra Gallery

Love seeing neuroaesthetics framed this way. Art isn’t just visual—it’s cognitive medicine, activating memory and empathy. That’s exactly why we keep turning to it in our homes and daily lives.
