‘Martha’ – the self-driving shuttle at Rotterdam The Hague Airport! Last week, during the Railforum event, I had the opportunity to experience Martha in action. Since June 1st, this autonomous bus has been operating between the metro station and the airport. A powerful example of how innovation is reshaping mobility! What makes Martha stand out? * Over 10 years of development * Fully autonomous operation across a 2.4 km route * Only one intervention by the safety driver in three months * Capacity: 20 passengers, length: 8 meters * Despite high investments of the bus, total costs over 12 years are 25–30% lower than a conventional bus due to reduced staffing and damage The discussion continues this week at #UrbanMobilityDays 2025 in Vilnius. While the European Commission calls on cities to launch cross-border pilots, cities like Hamburg and Stockholm are already taking concrete steps. Autonomous transport offers great potential to make mobility more inclusive and efficient. The challenge? Integrating it into the broader urban and regional mobility system. This requires collaboration between cities, transport authorities, and operators. What do you think are the key conditions for successfully integrating autonomous transport? #PublicTransport #RET #Railforum #AutonomousTransport #Innovation #UrbanMobilityDays #Collaboration
