If your doctor deems it necessary, you may be referred to a genetic specialist who will check for gene changes that increase your risk, said Dr Syed Ahmad, interim director of University of Cincinnati Cancer Centre. “A lot of times, patients are scared to go to a genetic counsellor because of fear of the unknown”, Dr Syed said. Aurora kinase A (AURKA) has been shown to play a key role in this missing link! Chronic Helicobacter pylori infection affects over half of the world’s population and is a major cause of gastric cancer. A new study showed that when the AURKA gene was silenced, H. pylori pathogenic gene expression decreased. Furthermore, the study revealed that AURKA regulates STAT3 and c-Myc, key oncogenes driving cancer progression. 🌟 Exciting news! Our latest research has just been published in Genes MDPI 🎉 We studied the ESR2 gene 🧬, which plays an important role in hormone-related cancers. While this gene is usually protective, certain genetic changes (variants) can make it act differently depending on the cancer type. ✨ What we found: ⚠️ In breast cancer, some ESR2 variants are linked to worse survival. 💪 In ovarian & endometrial cancers, the same gene variants may actually improve survival. 🔬 Customer Publication Spotlight Cancer cells don’t all move the same way when escaping a primary tumor. They can shift between different strategies — from elongated, fibroblast-like movement to rounded, amoeboid migration — adapting as they invade surrounding tissue. Understanding the gene activity behind these transitions has remained a challenge. In this study, researchers developed a single-cell isolation technique that provides detailed 3D insights into melanoma growth and invasion. By tagging cells in different states with a photoconvertible fluorescent protein, they were able to isolate and analyze them with single-cell RNA sequencing.
