Some companies chase the sun. enurgen decided to model it. The Ottawa-based deep-tech startup just secured a $4.1M seed round led by BDC, Brightspark Ventures, and Diagram Ventures, with MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund joining the mix. It's the kind of funding move that tells you the energy game isn't just heating up, it's getting smarter. This one's a physics play wrapped in code, spun straight out of the University of Ottawa's #SUNLAB, where math meets #megawatts and the #photons don't stand a chance. CEO & Co-Founder Kibby Pollak, a SUNLAB alum with engineering roots and startup grit, has teamed up with CTO & Co-Founder Dr. Christopher E. Valdivia, whose PhD in Optoelectronics gives DUET, their flagship 3D finite-element engine, its pulse. Add Professor Karin Hinzer, President & Co-Founder, the architect of SUNLAB itself, and Professor Henry Schriemer, Co-Founder & Head of Research, whose academic fingerprints are all over the science, and you've got a founding team that's half lab coat, half laser beam. This isn't just software; it's a digital twin that can predict a #solarplant's yield within 1% of real-world performance. That's not marketing. That's math with swagger. DUET, short for Dual-sided Energy Tracer, doesn't rely on AI guesswork. It runs #physics-first, from the cell to the gigawatt, mapping #light, #terrain, and #weather in obsessive detail. It's precision built for the people keeping the lights on: IPPs, EPCs, and asset managers who can't afford to be wrong. Enurgen's already working with global #solaroperators, validating models that could erase the industry's 7–13% performance gap, numbers that make CFOs and #climatescientists equally sleepless. Backed by over 7 years of R&D and 10+ years of SUNLAB credibility, Enurgen grew from a 6-person research spinoff to a 50-strong force by 2025. Their secret? Staying rooted in physics while scaling through software. While the rest of the market is busy training models, Enurgen is training accuracy. In solar, precision isn't a feature, it's survival. This $4.1M round isn't just capital, it's fuel. It powers DUET's evolution, global expansion, and integration with the tools that run solar's day-to-day grind. Pollak and Valdivia aren't chasing sunlight; they're engineering how the world measures it. In a $500M+ market where every watt counts, Enurgen isn't promising perfection, they're proving it, 1 photon at a time. #Startups #StartupFunding #EarlyStage #VentureCapital #SeedRound #AI #Solar #SolarTech #Energy #EnergyTech #ClimateTech #DeepTech #Technology #Innovation #TechEcosystem #StartupEcosystem #Hiring #TechHiring If software engineering peace of mind is what you crave, Vention is your zen.
