🚀 EuroCC Denmark – Case of the Month: #01 Empowering Dictus with LUMI supercomputer #HPC 🚀 This month, we’re proud to highlight our collaboration with Dictus ApS from Brøndby, Denmark, a company developing cutting-edge speech recognition models for Scandinavian languages. The challenge: Dictus wanted to train large end-to-end models (like #Wav2vec and #Whisper) on vast Scandinavian speech datasets, far beyond what their local #GPU setup could handle. Training took weeks and limited their ability to scale or use data augmentation. The Solution: Stefan Kröll Rasmussen (pictured), HPC expert at EuroCC Denmark supported Dictus in their transition to the LUMI supercomputer. Our role focused on assisting with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) application process and guiding them through the adaptation of their #PyTorch/ #CUDA code to LUMI’s #ROCm framework. While Dictus led the development, our technical support ensured their models could scale efficiently on one of Europe’s most powerful HPC systems. The impact: With LUMI and Stefan’s support, Dictus can now train models faster, handle much more data, and improve speech recognition accuracy, leveling the playing field against global tech giants and delivering better services for Scandinavian users. University of Galway is to host Ireland’s new supercomputer, following a collaboration agreement by the Government of Ireland and the European Commission. 🤝 
 The national high-performance computing system – CASPIr – will be operated by the University’s ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing) providing the research and innovation community across Ireland and Europe with significantly enhanced capacity to address challenges and opportunities in science and society such as climate, environment, health, AI and big data.
 CASPIr will be co-funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and (EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) as part of a five-year collaboration agreement.
 Our President, Professor David Burn, said: “The collaboration agreement for the new supercomputer CASPIr heralds a new era of research capability for Europe, and Ireland’s research community, and places University of Galway and our Irish Centre for High-End Computing at the helm of data driven study. I would like to thank Minister James Lawless TD and his team in the Department for pursuing this investment and working with University of Galway to secure it." 🌍🚀 Strengthening Europe’s Supercomputing Ecosystem The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has awarded a major contract to GÉANT, the pan-European research and education network, to build and operate ultra-high bandwidth, secure interconnect services for Europe’s supercomputers. Over the next four years, this €60 million initiative will provide hyperconnectivity infrastructure linking EuroHPC supercomputers, national supercomputers, AI factories, quantum facilities, and research centers across Europe — enabling data transfers in the terabit-per-second range. 📌 What does this mean for Slovenia? This milestone will allow for a significant upgrade of Arnes’ connection to GÉANT and the 💻 Vega supercomputer — reaching an impressive 1.2 Tb/s. This step will empower Slovenian researchers and innovators with high-speed access to Europe’s interconnected supercomputing resources. First deployment activities are expected in the coming months, with services becoming available to users in 2026. Big news for Ireland’s Innovation and research community! University of Galway has been chosen to host Ireland’s new national supercomputer — CASPIr 🎉 This powerful system will be operated by our ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing) and will help researchers across Ireland and Europe tackle some of the biggest challenges of our time - from climate change and health to artificial intelligence and big data.
