🌿 Hemp Builders Unite for the Future of the Industry 🏗️ Cameron McIntosh (Americhanvre) explains why it’s time for the hemp building community to rally once again, to keep hemp-lime in the code and in the future of sustainable construction. “Thank God they were paying attention.” 🙌 Those are the words of Cameron, giving credit where it’s due, to Martin Hammer, David Eisenberg, and Anthony Dente, the trio of code consultants who’ve spent decades shaping the standards for Straw Bale, Light Straw Clay, Adobe, Tiny Homes, and now, Hemp-Lime Construction. Their quiet, consistent work led to a breakthrough: Hemp-lime earned its place in the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC), a milestone that legitimized hemp as a safe, sustainable building material and opened new doors for builders, architects, and homeowners across the U.S. Now, they’re back at it again, updating Appendix BL for the 2027 IRC, adding fire-resistance data, refining mass wall language, and strengthening the technical foundation for the entire natural building community. 💚 As Cameron said, “This work is a community effort that will benefit the entire industry.” 🧱 Their work helps: ✅ Remove costly testing barriers ✅ Build trust with code officials ✅ Make sustainable building more accessible for all 💪 This isn’t about one company, it’s about all of us: builders, educators, advocates, and visionaries keeping hemp-lime in the code and in the future of sustainable construction. 👉 Donate today to support the IRC 2027 update. Together, we’re not just supporting code work, we’re building the legacy of sustainable construction. 💡 Every contribution helps advance the future of safer, greener, and more affordable homes. Last spring, we started a project in Alberta that pushed us to rethink not just how we build, but what we build with. Every beam, every joist, every piece of timber became an opportunity to reduce waste and leave a lighter footprint on the environment. Instead of standard practices, our team implemented: Precision-cut materials to minimize offcuts and repurpose leftover wood. Sustainable sourcing, partnering with suppliers who prioritize forest stewardship and certified timber. Recycling and reuse, ensuring that what couldn’t be used on-site found a second life in community projects. The result? A framed structure delivered on schedule with 25% less waste than our previous projects, and a satisfied client who shares our commitment to sustainability. At Living Legends Construction Inc., sustainability isn’t an afterthought. It’s part of our operating standard. By refining how we source, build, and manage materials, we’re demonstrating that wood framing can deliver both structural strength and environmental responsibility. The real measure of success isn’t just a project completed. It’s a project that sets a new benchmark for efficiency and sustainability in our industry. #SustainableConstruction #WoodFraming #GreenBuilding #LivingLegendsConstruction #OperationalExcellence

🟢 Welcome to UK Architects Declare’s Circular Revolution! 🟢 💪 Yesterday’s event represents the beginning of our campaign to unite industry leaders and demonstrate to government and policy-makers that the built environment sector is ready to lead the transition to a circular economy. 😨 The waste generated by the UK construction sector in a single year could fill the River Thames from Imperial Wharf to the Thames Barrier! 🤢 Whilst some of this is recovered, much of it leaves the construction sector, devalued, downcycled and flowing into other sectors, often sent overseas. This leaves the UK construction sector bringing in more and more virgin materials, contributing to increasing carbon emissions and ecological degradation. 📈To shift course, we need both top-down policy interventions and bottom-up industry innovation: 🫵 Government action can rapidly shift market conditions. What would be your top ‘ask’? 📣Industry leadership is essential to turn policy ambition into practical delivery. What ‘pledge’ will your organisation make? 👇 Read the full document below and send us your pledges and asks… 💸 A proportion of the funds raised at our event on October 14 2025 will be reinvested into industry initiatives that accelerate this transformation, and we’d like to thank our sponsors and supporters for their generous donations: Lazari / MarksBarfield Architects / Structure Tone / Mace #TopDown #BottomUp #PledgesandAsks #BuiltEnvironment #CircularRevolution

♻️ Reducing Construction Waste: 3 Simple Strategies We Use on Every Site Did you know the construction industry is one of the biggest producers of waste in the UK? At Walker Homes, we believe building high-quality homes shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment. That’s why we take practical steps to reduce waste on every development. Here are 3 ways we do it: ✅ Only ordering what we need Careful planning means we avoid over-ordering materials and cut down on offcuts. Less waste, less cost. ✅ Using off-site construction methods Where it makes sense, we use pre-built components that arrive ready to install. It reduces packaging, speeds up the build, and means fewer mistakes on site. ✅ Reusing and recycling wherever possible We work with trusted contractors to separate and recycle waste on site, from timber and plasterboard to bricks and packaging. These small steps add up to something big: a more sustainable way to build. We’re proud to deliver homes that don’t just meet today’s standards, they help protect tomorrow’s environment too. 🌍 #WalkerHomes #SustainableBuilding #ConstructionWaste #AffordableHousingUK #ModernHousebuilding #LowCarbonLiving #BetterWaysToBuild

Construction is one of the most high pressure industries and the human cost is alarming. In the UK, men in construction are three times more likely to die by suicide than the national average. We can’t ignore this, but what if we rethought the environment people work in? Green infrastructure on building sites isn’t just about sustainability it’s about wellbeing. Greener sites reduce stress, support healthier minds, and create safer, more positive places to work. And when people thrive, projects thrive. The future of construction isn’t only about what we build — it’s about how we build, and the impact it has on those who do the work. If you or someone you know in construction is struggling, support is available through the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.

Week Three of #FallKickoff is here — and our focus in #FundingMonth turns to sustainability programs funded through the Energy & Water and Interior subcommittees. Energy & Water might sound like a utility bill, Interior might sound like decorating — but these subcommittees control programs that shape the future of our built environment. Buildings account for about 40% of U.S. energy use and carbon emissions. The good news: we already have the tools to change that — but only if Congress invests in them. Programs that advance energy efficiency, healthy buildings, and historic preservation aren’t optional. They’re essential to lowering emissions, protecting public health, and ensuring our communities thrive for generations to come. That’s why we’re calling on Congress to fund: $392 million for the Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office (BTO) — advancing innovation in energy-efficient building design and construction. $100 million for EPA’s Label Program for Low Embodied Carbon Construction — driving market adoption of lower-carbon building materials. $80 million for ENERGY STAR — one of the most effective tools we have for improving energy efficiency across homes and businesses. $47 million for EPA’s efforts to reduce indoor air risks — because healthy buildings mean healthy people. $225 million for the Historic Preservation Fund — preserving the buildings that connect us to our past while adapting them for the future. Federal investments here mean cleaner air, lower energy bills, stronger markets for American innovation, and healthier, more resilient communities. If you live in a district represented on these subcommittees, keep an eye on your inbox — we’ll be asking you to contact your member of Congress to urge support for these programs. Stay tuned and please send us your policy and funding priorities for climate, sustainability and resilience as we continue highlighting why these investments matter — and how AIA members can take action.
