Scoop: Women's health startup Tia just slashed 23% of its workforce. Once a rising star backed by Melinda Gates, Tia offers in-person and virtual care tailored to women, with 11 clinics across the US. On Tuesday, the company laid off employees across its corporate, provider, and field support teams, according to an internal email obtained by Business Insider. In the email, cofounder and CEO Felicity Yost said that underperformance across the business meant Tia couldn’t reach profitability without additional funding. So Tia went out to raise more money — and got investor feedback that forced the startup to tighten its belt. It's the latest healthcare company to rework its strategy as the industry's economic pressures collide with venture capital's growth expectations. Unfortunately, this reflects the broader reality many purpose-driven startups face today — balancing mission with sustainable business models. The challenge for health and wellness ventures remains finding equilibrium between impact and profitability, especially in an evolving funding landscape.

3dThis is a sad reflection not on the team at TIA or the need for this care but of the mis match value and payment for the care of women. Staffing cost have gone up, but reimbursement has gone down. After experiencing the VC runway first hand with HERMD we have to look deeper into the system and why VC funding may need to give a longer runway to profitability or figure out other ways to profit because insurance based women's healthcare is really tough right now. Doctors either need to be very procedural or see more patients and with the looming Dr. Shortage it will get worse before it gets better. My sincere prayers for those laid off at TIA and may they know this is not a reflection of their effort but of the broken healthcare system that does not value women's health and wellness.
