As the global energy industry prepares for #ADIPEC2025, taking place in Abu Dhabi in two weeks, the conversation is once again centred on turning #decarbonisation from ambition into action. Carbon Capture and Storage (#CCS) is emerging as one of the most scalable solutions for emissions reduction in the region, with momentum building rapidly across the #MiddleEast. As projects transition from concept to construction, success will depend on more than capture capacity — it will rely on technical integrity across the full #carbonmanagement value chain. 📝 In our latest insight, we explore what truly underpins the success of CCS: maintaining secure #CO2 containment, ensuring infrastructure integrity, and addressing legacy risks before they become liabilities. In the Middle East's developing CCS market, this technical assurance will influence investor confidence, regulatory development, and public trust, and ultimately determine how quickly the region can scale decarbonisation. 🌍 Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is entering a new era of scale and impact It’s been a privilege to support the Global CCS Institute, the world’s leading think tank dedicated to accelerating CCS deployment. Last week, the Institute unveiled its Global CCS Report 2025, presented by CEO Jarad Daniels in a live webinar. The report paints a compelling picture of momentum: over 734 CCS projects are now in the global pipeline, with a cumulative capture capacity of 416 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). Notably, 77 facilities are already operational, marking a 54% increase from last year, and projections show 337 Mtpa capture capacity by 2030. The Middle East & Africa is led by Mohammad Abu Zahra, Chief Regional Officer. The MENA region is emerging as a global leader in low-carbon industrial development. Flagship CCS projects are advancing in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, and Qatar. From Saudi’s Jubail CCS Hub to Oman’s Net Zero Centre and Qatar’s Ras Laffan CCS Project, the region is making strides in policy readiness, MRV frameworks, and investment strategies. These efforts are positioning MENA as a key player in the global energy transition. In parallel, the CCS Wells Technology Roadmap was launched by Net Zero Technology Centre which is led by Myrtle Dawes, CEO. This Roadmap was compiled in conjunction with DNV and commissioned by the North Sea Transition Authority. This UK-focused roadmap outlines the technologies required for safe, long-term CO₂ storage in the North Sea. It covers everything from advanced materials and monitoring systems to intervention tools and legacy well remediation - critical components for ensuring the integrity and sustainability of CCS infrastructure. 🚀 CCS is no longer a future technology—it is happening now, and it is accelerating. At HFI, we are proud to support our clients’ energy transition ventures across the Middle East, whether through international group structures, local partner ventures, technology licensing and manufacturing, or strategic acquisitions. #CCS #EnergyTransition #CarbonCapture #GlobalCCSReport #MENA #NetZero #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #HFI

Walking through #WETEX_2025 today, one project immediately captured my attention — MBR Solar Park Phase 7. 🌞 In my discussions about this milestone, I could clearly see how it embodies the UAE’s vision and determination: not just to meet, but to exceed sustainability targets. The scale, ambition, and innovation behind Phase 7 are proof of how far the nation is pushing the boundaries of clean energy. It’s not just about generating more megawatts — it’s about creating a future where sustainability is at the core of every development. And witnessing this commitment firsthand is truly inspiring. On a personal level, it resonates deeply with my own research and efforts in renewable energy, microgrids, and sustainable systems. Every project I work on — whether in the lab, through collaboration, or in guiding students — is a step toward supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially Affordable and Clean Energy (#SDG_7) and Climate Action (#SDG_13). Seeing such large-scale initiatives reminds me why our work matters: together, through innovation, education, and determination, we can accelerate the global transition to a clean and sustainable energy future. 🌍⚡ #WETEX2025 #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #UAE2030 #MBRsolarpark #SDG7 #SDG13

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 (𝗖𝗖𝗦) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 The Global CCS Institute has just released its Global Status of CCS 2025 report, one of the most comprehensive snapshots of how carbon capture and storage (CCS) is advancing across the world. 👏 ♻️ This annual report is a reflection of how global momentum, policy direction, and technology are converging to make large-scale carbon management a reality. With 77 CCS facilities now in operation (a 54% increase year-on-year) and over 734 projects in the development pipeline, the sector is quietly moving from promise to proof. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: ✅ Financial confidence - CCS projects now attract non-recourse financing and private capital from institutional investors, a first for the sector. ✅ Geographical expansion - Beyond North America and Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and even Africa are building legal and regulatory foundations for deployment. ✅ Infrastructure scale-up - CO₂ transport and storage networks are doubling, with new hubs in Norway, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Malaysia. ✅ Sectoral breakthroughs - Cement, hydrogen, and natural gas are now seeing first-of-a-kind commercial CCS projects, proving scalability across hard-to-abate industries. ✅ Future trajectory - Capture capacity is projected to increase fivefold by 2030, from 64 Mtpa to over 337 Mtpa but we’re still far from gigatonne-scale goals. This report reminds us that while the road ahead is long, CCS is no longer an experiment, it’s becoming a cornerstone of global decarbonisation strategies. For policymakers, it offers a blueprint to strengthen legal and financing frameworks. For industries, it showcases the business models now proving viable. And for sustainability professionals, it signals where the next wave of carbon management innovation will emerge. #planetaryhealth #planetaryboundaries #sustainability #ClimateAction #carbonfootprint #NetZero #ClimateEmergency #SDG #ESG #GHG #netzero #CarbonCapture #CCUS #CarbonManagement

Is Europe on track to meet its #NZIA goals? In our recent report by Jon Story, Vice President, Energy Consulting, Head of CCS Consulting, Lisa G., Director, Energy Consulting, and Jack Mageau, Senior Research Analyst, CCUS, we explore how the EU’s current CCS project pipeline falls significantly short of the 50 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) CO₂ injection capacity target set by the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) in June 2024. Facing #delays, #cancellations, and #regulatory challenges, achieving the required injection capacity by 2030 now looks increasingly unlikely. Looking at typical project timelines and potential investment hurdles, with rising costs leading to the risk of stranded assets, the findings reveal why accelerating CCS development is proving far more complex than expected. 👉 Find out how far the EU still has to go, what’s holding projects back and what it could mean for Europe’s net zero ambitions in our full report: https://okt.to/nylY3p
