Building Inferless (Backed by Sequoia)

When James Dyett joined OpenAI, they had 700K inbounds and just five people on the team. 🤯 I watched his conversation from a few months ago with Ben Salzman and Millie Beetham on how Open AI built its enterprise motion. What really struck me was how their sales team behaves more like educators than traditional sellers, when people come in excited but unsure what’s possible, they don’t pitch a product; they help them understand what AI can actually do. He also mentioned hiring salespeople who think like product managers-curious, analytical, and obsessed with solving problems. It’s such a powerful way to build long-term trust with customers. And the point about outbound making a company more resilient, not just as a growth channel but as a way to stay close to reality, really stayed with me. If you’re building in AI, this is worth watching. https://shorturl.at/z436F

Thanks for the thoughtful review!

thanks Aishwarya (AG) Goel. agreed Millie Beetham and I loved having James Dyett. great insights throughout. OpenAI recently put out a video where they show how they solved this! 👀: https://openai.com/index/openai-inbound-sales-assistant/

Such a good callout. James Dyett is incredible. Worth noting that he was just as effective at Stripe, where he spent years building teams that served customers across the whole spectrum, from startups to huge enterprises (Amazon, Instacart, etc). A true master of turning a normal sales process into an insightful strategy exercise for the customer looking to grow.
