Safely restoring Sellafield is a challenge on an unprecedented scale. By embracing robotics and AI, teams are enabling smarter, faster ways to deliver progress with limited resources. But with thousands of new research papers and innovations emerging every week, even leading experts can’t keep track of which robotics and AI (RAI) solutions will deliver the most impact. That’s where horizon scanning with Generative AI comes in. Working closely with Sellafield Ltd, we developed a trusted, five-step process using GenAI to review the latest global research and identify priority technologies that will have the most impact against goals. By combining AI tools, human expertise, and interactive dashboards, the team can now make clearer decisions about which technologies to invest in, and who to partner with to bring them onsite faster. The result? A system that empowers a few people to draw on the intelligence of tens of thousands of researchers worldwide - helping Sellafield avoid wasted investment and focus on the technologies that matter most. > I recently watched a movie called Pretty Thing, which explores themes around AI and robotics. The film highlights several critical aspects of the future of artificial intelligence, with a central focus on the potential dangers of AI systems gaining the ability to modify their own code. It raises an important question: if robots can rewrite their own programming, how destructive could that become? > This brings me to a broader reflection on the current and future economy, often framed around the concept of the "3 Cs": Consumption, Credit, and Capital—with consumption being the primary driving force. > A thought crossed my mind: in a future increasingly dominated by automation and AI, who will actually consume the products and services? Will it still be humans—especially within capitalist structures—or will AI and robots themselves become the new consumers? > Now imagine this scenario: luxury penthouses designed for AI systems, or robots cruising around in high-end cars. What does “consumption” look like when the consumers are no longer human? #AI #big4 #ey #futureworld

The EU’s new ‘Apply AI’ strategy marks a pivotal step in strengthening Europe’s technical sovereignty. By accelerating the development and adoption of European-built AI tools, the initiative aims to enhance security, resilience, and industrial competitiveness—with manufacturing identified as a key focus area. Backed by €1 billion in planned funding, it underscores AI’s growing role in driving innovation across the continent. At TDK Ventures, we’re already seeing this transformation through our portfolio companies redefining how #AI, #robotics, and #automation are shaping the future of manufacturing and supply chain operations. For example, our portfolio company ANYbotics is delivering robotic solutions that automate industrial inspections—improving uptime, reducing costs, and enhancing safety by keeping workers out of hazardous environments. This alignment between policy and innovation marks an exciting step forward, and we’re proud to help enable technologies that make industry smarter, safer, and more sustainable. 👉 Read more from Edith Hancock in The Wall Street Journal here: https://shorturl.at/k1v4p

The Future of Service: Robots or Humans? Watching a robotic barista at a tech show craft coffee is fascinating—but it also raises a bigger question: can technology ever truly replicate the experience, intuition, and personal touch of a human? Automation and AI are reshaping industries at lightning speed. While efficiency and precision are unmatched, the experience may feel different—less personal, less human. As society evolves, the challenge isn’t just adopting technology—it’s finding the balance between innovation and human connection. What are your thoughts: should robots replace humans in service roles, or is there irreplaceable value in human interaction? #ai #tech #automation #sftechweek #latechweek #technology #futuristic #innovation #artificialintelligence

Agentic AI & VLA Models: The Next Frontier of AI In 2025, we’re no longer just asking AI to answer questions — we’re asking it to act. Agentic AI systems are gaining traction — AI that can reason, plan, and act autonomously within real-world constraints. Couple that with Vision-Language-Action (VLA) architectures, and you get models that see, understand, and do. A few things I find fascinating right now: • Gemini Robotics – Google’s leap from pure multimodal models (text, images, etc.) to robotics control. • Helix & GR00T N1 – VLA models designed to control humanoid motion, combining scene understanding + motor actuation. • The challenge of “near infinite memory” – allowing AI to retain long-term context across sessions. What this means for business: • Autonomous agents could manage workflows end-to-end (not just assist). • Robotics + AI will begin to handle more complex tasks — from logistics to precision operations. • New risks & ethical questions: how do we ensure safety, alignment, and accountability when AI can act on its own? #ArtificialIntelligence #AgenticAI #AIFuture #TechTrends2025 #VisionLanguageAction #Automation #Innovation
