#WTFWednesday… a perfect time to ask “Where’s The Farmer?” 👩🏽🌾 🇪🇹 In this episode, we’re heading to Ethiopia: a country at the heart of humanity’s (and coffee’s ☕️) origins, and one to watch when it comes to agricultural innovation. While attending the UN Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktake in Addis Ababa, our Founder & CEO Christine R Gould visited Joytech PLC Farm: a 100-hectare operation employing over 1,400 staff (75% women). With climate-controlled greenhouses, seamless cold chain logistics, tissue culture labs, advanced seed propagation, hydroponics, and fertigation systems, Joytech is leveraging technology to produce safe, nutritious food for local communities while exporting year-round to global markets. We also chatted with local agritech startups who have developed solutions like biofertilizer pellets to improve yields sustainably, poultry feed that ensures eggs are higher in Omega3s to combat malnutrition, and virtual tree replanting and smallholder and pastoral empowerment. The big takeaway: With world-class science, inclusive job creation, and a vibrant startup culture, Ethiopia is showing how agricultural innovation can connect East African soil to global tables. 👉 Watch the full episode and share your reflections: youtube.com/@GIGAfutures And don’t miss all of our ‘WTF: Where’s The Farmer?’ video episodes, where we uncover the bold people and brilliant technologies shaping the future of food, all over the world. #WTF #WheresTheFarmer #FoodSystems #AgrifoodInnovation #Ethiopia #UNFSS25 #AgriTech #LeapfrogMarkets #FarmerCenteredInnovation #FutureOfFood #GIGAfutures #GIGAstudios | Takele Teshome | Arnon Carmel | 🚀 Startups driving change: from biofertilizers and poultry innovations to tree replanting and smallholder empowerment

Our Journey: From Near Shutdown to Serving 2000+ Farmers 🌱 Every startup has its share of hurdles, but some journeys truly test your grit. Ours did. We began with a simple but powerful mission: make soil testing easier, faster, and affordable for farmers. For two years, we hustled tirelessly — experimenting, building, and failing. 💡 We tried devices, but affordability became a barrier — both for us and for farmers. 💡 We shifted to satellite imagery, only to fall short and face failure again. 💡 At one point, shutting down felt like the only option. But then came a moment that changed everything. Our team came back with a breakthrough: 70% accuracy in soil analysis. Their belief that “we can make this better” gave us the push to hold on a little longer. We validated, tested, and even sought certifications. The response? “Not authorized.” Another setback. Instead of giving up, we turned to the people who matter the most — farmers themselves. We asked them to compare our reports with lab reports. The feedback was clear: our solution worked. That validation from the ground gave us the confidence to go all in. 🌾 Today, iAvenue Labs proudly serves 2000+ farmers in Chhattisgarh. - 43% of them have reported improvements in yield quantity and quality. - Not a single negative feedback on our reports or data-backed advisory. That’s what happens when human knowledge meets data. It doesn’t just improve practices — it transforms lives. We know the journey is far from over. Farmers still need greater awareness and behavioral change when it comes to soil and input practices. And that’s exactly what we’re working on every single day. Because building the future of farming isn’t about quick wins — it’s about resilience, trust, and impact. #agritech #indianagriculture #sustainablefarming #sustainability #soilhealth #soiltest #precisionfarming #iavenuelabs #organic #precisionagriculture #agriculture

What makes a farm a great place to work? In agriculture, reputation travels fast. A farm that values its people, develops their skills, and celebrates their contributions is far more likely to attract — and keep — the best talent. In a recent episode of Farm of the Future: Solving Staffing in Ag, Chris Manley NSch joins host Iory Hughes to explore why leadership is about more than management. It’s about how you show up every day, how you listen, and how you create an environment where people feel valued. The payoff? ✔ Stronger, more motivated teams ✔ A reputation as an employer of choice ✔ The ability to attract people into farming who may not come from traditional agricultural backgrounds, but bring fresh skills and perspectives Good leadership doesn’t just strengthen individual farms — it strengthens the whole industry.
