One of my mentees messaged me after her interview a few weeks ago: “They asked if I had any questions at the end… I said no. I didn’t want to sound clueless.” That fear is more common than you think. So many engineers avoid asking questions in interviews because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing. But here’s the truth — not asking any questions makes you look uninterested. In DevOps interviews, curiosity is confidence. The best candidates don’t just answer questions — they ask great ones. Because when you ask smart questions, you show three things: 👉 You care about how things actually work. 👉 You think about the bigger picture. 👉 You’re confident enough to dig deeper. Here are a few questions that make you stand out 👇 💡 “How does your team handle deployments and rollbacks?” 💡 “What’s been your biggest reliability challenge this year?” 💡 “How do you monitor and prioritize incidents when multiple systems fail?” Those aren’t “safe” questions. They’re insightful ones — and they spark real conversations. Because DevOps isn’t just about knowing tools. It’s about thinking deeply about systems, processes, and outcomes. So next time the interviewer says, “Do you have any questions?” That’s not your cue to end the call — it’s your chance to shine.
