Diary of a "Charity" CEO Continuing this series, my colleague Nikita Fortmann asked me a great question: “What’s the one bit of advice you wish you hadn’t ignored?” Well… that’s simple. I should have stepped back and focused on the one thing I’m truly good at! Talking about Hope4❤️ A dear friend, Ben Cooley, a hugely successful charity leader, told me recently that I should be spending my time in a suit and tie, meeting people and businesses who can help fund what we’ve started. Ever since my beautiful wife, Zoe Lomas, and I created Hope4, I’ve been on the front line, and at times, quite literally. Delivering aid across Ukraine, leading from the front, doing whatever it took… but in the process, neglecting the very supply lines that fuel our growth. I don’t regret it, not really, but I do recognise now that balance matters. And now, like so many other charities, our supply lines have all but dried up, and Hope4 is left fighting to survive. ▶️ Yes, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes, but Hope4 isn’t one of them. ▶️ Yes, I believe in what we’ve built, and I’ve poured everything into it. ➡️ Yes, I’ve taken nothing, given everything, and the cost has been dear. But the reward has been worth the pain? Watching lives transformed, communities rebuilt, and hope restored 💯 And if I’ve learned anything from it all, it’s this: Sometimes, the greatest act of leadership isn’t charging forward, it’s stepping back, so others can move with you. We’re thrilled to share that The Alnwick Garden Trust has been awarded Partnership Funding from Lycetts and the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards, joining 17 other charities across the UK and Ireland to share a £400,000 fund. This funding will help us grow our Roots and Shoots programmes, life changing initiatives that give vulnerable people of all ages hands on experience in horticulture, helping them develop confidence, skills, age well and combat social isolation. #KUDOS to Tasha Jaslim and Nani Mohamad who were the LexisNexis Risk Solutions champions behind this event in partnership with Green Nudge The team cleared 150 kilograms of marine debris from the coast and mangrove swamp of Coney Island — a significant contribution to protecting our local ecosystem and marine life. Here’s a snapshot of what was removed: 🧊 Styrofoam scraps 🧴 Plastic bottles and caps 🍴 Disposable cutlery 🎣 Fishing lines and bait (a real hazard to sea creatures) 👟 Slippers, large plastic barrels and even pipes!   Every piece picked up was a step toward a cleaner, safer ocean.
