We signed an MOU with Selex Motors in Hanoi earlier this week in the midst of heavy rains and floods from Typhoon Bualoi. In some way, it underscored the urgency of the fight against climate change that we’re all part of. That’s why we’re supportive of the Vietnam government’s push towards #EV transition, and are intent on doing our part. Selex is a Vietnamese EV startup that is building an ecosystem for EV two-wheelers. Not just building bikes, but also universal battery packs and battery swapping infrastructure. The approach here is critical to our Grab driver-partners, for whom range anxiety (the fear that their EV will run out of battery mid-journey) is a big reason some hesitate to make the switch. If they have access to a network of stations at which they can quickly swap out their battery packs and continue on their way, it makes a big difference especially since there’s no downtime from charging. Our EV fleet in Vietnam is already our fastest-growing in the region, and our agreement with Selex will help make EVs even more accessible to our partners while we build out more infrastructure together. I think (as you can see in some of these photos) that our partners will be excited to get their hands on these Camel bikes 🙂Though I did joke with Selex CEO Nguyen Nguyen that with all the flooding, maybe they should be called Turtle instead. 😁 If you are heading to Vietnam soon, give our EV GrabBike and GrabCar options a try!
I’ve been eagerly waiting for the Vietnam app to offer the option to choose an electric vehicle. Will it be available soon?
Great to hear that 🥰
