S&O IP Vietnam Partners With Quang Ninh Authorities to Strengthen IP Protection On September 12, 2025, S&O IP Vietnam partnered with the Quang Ninh Department of Industry and Trade and the Market Surveillance Sub-Department to organize a specialized training session aimed at strengthening enforcement against counterfeiting and intellectual property infringement. Strategically located in Vietnam’s northeast, Quang Ninh Province serves as one of the busiest entry points for goods arriving from China and other global markets. This initiative builds on a well-established and long-standing partnership between S&O IP and the Quang Ninh Market Surveillance authority. At the same time, such professional programs have become increasingly important in light of the province’s recent administrative merger, ongoing legislative updates, and the rapid growth of e-commerce. The session focused on practical techniques for counterfeit detection, delivered directly by brand owners, as well as IP enforcement procedures and fraud prevention. Local officials also expressed strong interest in addressing emerging challenges linked to e-commerce platforms and the rising risk of smuggling across both digital and physical markets. In response, S&O IP experts shared valuable insights from market monitoring activities and updated officials on forthcoming legal measures designed to crack down on online criminal activity. Participants, including representatives from the Quang Ninh Province 389 Committee and related departments, responded enthusiastically. Their feedback highlighted the value of the knowledge shared and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening coordination with S&O IP Vietnam in future enforcement efforts. The Unified Patent Court's Mannheim Local Division and Munich Regional Court have blocked Amazon from seeking UK interim licenses covering InterDigital, Inc.'s European video codec patents under their jurisdiction, marking the first known anti-interim-license injunctions issued by courts. Amazon filed UK rate-setting proceedings on August 29 seeking an "adjustable license" for InterDigital's entire worldwide video portfolio. Amazon also seeks Brazilian declaratory judgments and to stop InterDigital from suing there. This prompted InterDigital to argue that UK interim licenses would prevent UPC enforcement (and in Germany) by giving Amazon a license defense. The UPC's €250,000-per-day penalty order protects its own proceedings while allowing UK courts to continue their case.

Interesting development. Europe is definitely treating IP rights more seriously than in the US. Remember that when selecting countries where you file for patents.

E-commerce and social commerce platforms in Thailand make shopping easier than ever—but they also fuel rising IP risks, from counterfeit goods to online piracy. While takedown systems can remove infringing listings quickly, their impact is often temporary. Lasting brand protection requires a broader strategy, combining online monitoring with legal enforcement, customs recordation, and proactive measures to address the real sources of infringement.
