Genie Fertility raises $1.2M to improve uterine health diagnosis

💰 London-based biotech startup Genie Fertility has emerged from stealth with $1.22 million in pre-seed funding to develop a non-invasive fertility diagnostic for uterine health using menstrual blood analysis. The round includes participation from Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, 33East, Arben Ventures, Transpose Platform, and Entrepreneurs First. The uterus accounts for up to 25% of fertility issues, yet remains underexplored in fertility treatment compared to sperm, egg, and embryo health. Fascinating breakthrough from the team at Oregon Health & Science University this week, who have successfully created early-stage embryos by turning human skin cells into eggs and fertilising them. The potential for this technology to shape future fertility treatment pathways for women of advanced maternal age or cancer patients is far-reaching but, of course, we are a long way off seeing this practice enter the mainstream. 💰 PS Fertility Inc has been awarded a $1.7 million The National Institutes of Health SBIR Fast-Track grant to advance research on PS Detect, a diagnostic test for #malefertility assessment. Researchers have created human eggs from skin cells, potentially transforming IVF treatment for couples who have no other options. The work is at an early stage but if scientists can perfect the process it would provide genetically related eggs for women who are infertile because of older age, illness or medical treatment.
