Entrepreneurship has the power to transform entire regions - Purvanchal is showing us how. I had the privilege of visiting the Jagriti Enterprise Centre - Purvanchal (JECP) and witnessing the incredible work that Ashutosh Kumar and the team are driving across 7 districts of Purvanchal. Their seven Centres of Excellence span agro-processing, digital innovation, handicrafts & apparel, women empowerment, healthcare, environment & biodiversity, and urbanization — creating a truly comprehensive platform for inspiration, innovation, and incubation. Jagriti has already inspired 9,000+ professionals through the iconic Jagriti Yatra, with 28% going on to become entrepreneurs. Building on this momentum, JECP is now supporting 120+ impactful enterprises in the region, taking entrepreneurship to Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns and beyond. During my visit to JECP, I met a diverse range of businesses from Pravidhaan FPO Kushinagar led by the passionate Anshuman Upadhyay who is building a farmer owned enterprise around specialty Kalanamak rice in Kushinagar, to ventures creating alternatives to plastic bags, to a vibrant plant nursery, and to chaimitra, run by the energetic and enterprising Surya Mishra, who is building a dynamic tea café chain to address the lack of quality hangout spaces in small towns. Kudos to the JECP's talented team for their vision and commitment. Anyone deeply interested in the Purvanchal region should certainly explore partnering with them.
