Katusa Research: When These 2 Maps Merge, You’ll Want to Own This The left shows America’s 94 nuclear reactors, built decades ago and scattered across empty land. The right shows America’s 2,847 data centers, the beating heart of the AI revolution. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gcJTS6au

"OpenAI has signed about $1tn in deals this year for computing power to run its artificial intelligence models...the deals would give OpenAI access to more than 20 gigawatts of computing capacity, roughly equivalent to the power from 20 nuclear reactors, over the next decade." https://lnkd.in/eGirY8hc

Dossier: The AI Arms Race No One Ever Got Fired for Buying Open AI This flurry of deals is meant to intimidate. If you are a competitor, do you have your own trillion dollars of compute supply confirmed? If not, why not sell out to us, we'll pay top dollar. If you are a customer, well, we have locked up our supply. Can NVDA or MSFT or Oracle really deliver 20GW? If not, 'who you got?' These are the top tech managements on the planet. If you are one of these managements, and you do not sign up for the gravy train, the competitors sure will. I mean, does Larry Ellison want to lose business to Mongo whoever? And what's the downside? A few billion of CapEx facing slow sales? They will simply slow the amortization and lower the RoE a couple of points and move on. In reality, the incumbents - Azure, AWS, Google began life as cpu implementations. Their investment in the gpu is relatively new, a couple of years at best. As a result, Oracle can borrow 100bn and catch up. It provided databases to the cloud providers and didn't really want to be a threat. AI is different. In all this brouhaha, Oracle has the least to lose. Amazon's stock is suffering because they do not have Google's Tensor or Microsoft's Open AI position. Their entire lead, Anthropic aside, is legacy cloud. Funny phrase, that. Claude Code is a huge hit, but it is an engineering utility, not the end product. So here we are. If you are the government of Indonesia looking to set up AI for all its universities, where do you go? Oldest saying in tech - No one ever got fired for buying ______. It used to be IBM. Now it's Open AI. The key is AI is not just a consumer or institutional product. In a significant minority of cases, maybe, eventually, a majority, it is a utility, just like a mainframe used to be. You can see all the nervous bureaucrats of the world lining up. The most interesting question on the planet now is Apple. Whatever Apple chooses to do becomes a localized utility function in its own right. And it has the financial wherewithal to mount a serious challenge. That's why Altman hired Ive - to build a response for those who want portable access to AI quality compute. It will be neither cheap nor easy. Over to you, Tim Cook. #openai #armsrace #IBM #Microsoft #nvidia #oracle #amd #apple #altman #jonyive #timcook

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 – 𝘈 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘵 𝘍𝘙𝘔 𝘐𝘐 In commercial nuclear power plants, reactors are designed to produce as much heat as possible from nuclear fission. That heat generates steam, which drives turbines to produce electricity. ⚡️ At the TUM Forschungs-Neutronenquelle Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) in Garching, the focus is different: here, the valuable by-products of fission - free neutrons - are harnessed directly for applications in research, industry and medicine. 🧪🚗🏥 Yesterday, our doctoral candidates had the opportunity to tour the facility, gaining a glimpse into the reactor as well as the experimental halls. 👀 Guided by researchers Michal Dembski-Villalta and Christoph Springl, they learned about how neutrons are produced and the wide-ranging ways they can be applied - ranging from the production of positrons for material science to analytics in the automotive industry. Many thanks to our guides, and to Dr. Diana Stürz from FRM II for organizing the visit! 🤗 📷: © Stürz, FRM II/TUM #IMPRSAPS #InternationalMaxPlanckResearchSchool #LabVisit
