An incredibly exciting week ahead 🤖.
Among other news, my TED Conferences Talk drops this Thursday. Was the thrill of a lifetime to represent the developer community in the red circle.
More soon.

There is a worldview that decided certain things were essential to the success of open source software on the internet, namely a "gift culture" and the ability for "many eyes" to make "all bugs seem shallow" (what ESR called "Linus' Law"). On the other hand, the current discourse is talking about how maintainers are overburdened and undersupported. This talk is about how open source technology gets made, and what social factors of open source development our CATB-influenced worldview made us ignore, leading us into the way the world is today.

Hello LinkedIn!!
PSA:🚨Rachele Simms, gem barton and myself (a total dream team if I do say so…) are pitching a session at SXSW London next year, bringing together a cross-functional group to collaboratively explore how we should rethink the questions we are asking of #architecture and the built environment to prepare more effectively for the future 🌇
We’ll be looking at the interdependencies between objective changes such as New Technologies, the Climate Crisis and Societal Shifts, and subjective evolutions in How, Where and Why humans, Live, Work and Play – provoking on their long-term impact on the physical spaces we inhabit.
If that sounds like something you’d like to join in, or you just think needs to happen please vote for us using the link below on Rachele’s post… FYI: you’ll need to sign up and sign in first!
To find us, once you’re in, the title is: Building Tomorrow: 2050 - Nine questions to reshape how we think about the future built environment
ID Code is: 3189 2050

‘Building Tomorrow: 2050 - Nine questions to reshape how we think about the future built environment’
Through open discussion and debate, participants will explore how culture, education, and commerce intersect to influence spatial experiences - come join myself Rachele Simmsgem barton and Louise French to explore how abstract and intangible sociocultural shifts will shape the future of the physical built environment.
Participate!
Easy right? Maybe not…
I get it - the intent here is genuine and positive, and this slide is more a call to action and less a case study.
But what happens when we don’t acknowledge barriers to entry? If it’s easy then everyone would do it.
I’d argue that there is more to participation at first glance that is unknown (“where do I start?”) and prevents true participation.
There is likely a book length of content to write on this - but what can you do now if you want to participate but don’t know how?
Show up!
That’s it, find out where and when and just show up. Doesn’t look as good as “participate” on a slide - but likely more effective.
For those who want to chat - I will be at SOSS Fusion this week and would love to start dissecting open source participation.
OpenID4VP Implementors Draft 3 was approved, thanks to everyone who casted a vote.

On Mondays, we host double sessions, which means double the thought-provoking discussions!
This week, we had 8 compelling topics proposed, and after a lively vote, the top two selections were:
5. Why do so many of us lack confidence in ourselves?
7. What would be the consequences of knowing we don’t have free will?
The full list of suggestions:
1. What is an expert, and do we need them in life?
2. Is every artistic expression inherently worthwhile?
3. What are the things we shouldn’t make fun of?
4. How can I be mad without hurting people?
5. Why do so many of us lack confidence in ourselves?
6. What is good health?
7. What would be the consequences of knowing we don’t have free will?
8. Is the development of automation ensuring a fairer world?
What’s your take on the topics we discussed? Would you have voted for these, or are there others on the list you’d dive into?
