We welcome the continuation of the RSV vaccine for infants through 2026; a critical protection for our youngest and most vulnerable. 👶💉 We now need expansion of key vaccines, including RSV and the enhanced flu vaccine, for older adults and those with chronic respiratory conditions like asthma. Viral infections are one of the most common triggers of asthma flare-ups. Expanding vaccine access isn’t just good policy, it’s a proven, preventive investment that reduces emergency visits, hospitalisations, and long-term healthcare costs. Protecting people with asthma means preventing illness before it starts. 💙 Read our Pre-Budget Submission here: https://lnkd.in/e7-dDiBv

Vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) reduce the risk of infection in older adults and infants, a new Cochrane review has found. Researchers from Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Cochrane Ireland (University of Galway), and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) analyzed 14 clinical trials involving more than 100,000 participants. The findings show strong evidence that RSV vaccines can protect the most vulnerable – infants and older adults – helping reduce hospitalizations and pressure on health systems. Respiratory tract infections increase during the autumn and winter months. These infections can lead to serious health problems, especially for the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, and those with weakened immune systems. Vaccination is critically important during this season to reduce the risk of hospitalization and complications. Dr. İrem Altunoluk, Specialist Physician and Responsible Doctor of Güven Hospital’s Adult Vaccination Polyclinic, explains the key points about vaccination against respiratory pathogens: 📌 Why is the flu more than just a “cold,” and what benefits does the flu vaccine provide? 📌 Who is more likely to experience severe RSV infection, and who is the vaccine recommended for? 📌 What diseases does the pneumococcus bacteria cause, and who should get the pneumococcal vaccine? Watch our video for detailed information. 🎥👇 #FluVaccine #RespiratoryInfection #GüvenleSağlık

The newly opened Greater Manchester Commercial Research Delivery Centre (GM CRDC) has begun its first set of studies, aiming to evaluate the effectiveness of vaccines for severe acute respiratory infections. Supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, the three studies are seeking to recruit 300 participants in total, all patients that were hospitalised last winter with severe acute respiratory infections. The research will provide crucial real-world evaluation of vaccine performance, assessing how vaccines for diseases like COVID-19 and RSV perform across diverse populations and outside of controlled clinical testing environments. It is hoped that data from these studies will help to inform future vaccination programmes, ensuring that each is designed to deliver the maximum benefit and protection. For older adults, the flu isn’t just an inconvenience — it can be serious, even life-threatening. Seniors over 65 account for the majority of flu-related hospitalizations each year because their immune systems naturally weaken with age. Families can play a key role in prevention and protection during flu season. ✨ Here’s what you should know: 🦠 Higher risk of complications – Seniors are more vulnerable to pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening of chronic conditions like asthma, COPD, or heart disease. 💉 Vaccines matter – Annual flu shots (and pneumonia vaccines, if recommended) are the most effective protection. High-dose flu vaccines are often suggested for adults 65+. 🧼 Prevention at home – Frequent handwashing, disinfecting commonly touched surfaces, and limiting contact with sick visitors all help reduce risk. 🥗 Immune support – A balanced diet, proper hydration, and regular rest strengthen the body’s ability to fight infection. 👨👩👧 Family responsibility – Caregivers and family members should also stay current with flu shots to protect vulnerable loved ones. 💙 Flu season prep isn’t just about staying healthy — it’s about reducing stress for families and giving seniors the best chance to enjoy the season safely. 👉 For more guidance and personalized support, visit: https://lnkd.in/eEBieEBD
