We’re proud to share this excellent feature from PortNews, which highlights how the Poseidon Project consortium, led by Perenco alongside Carbon Catalyst Limited and Harbour Energy, successfully completed a world-first offshore CO₂ injection trial in the Leman gas field of the UK North Sea. Mobilising from the Dixstone yard in Vlissingen, Petrodec’s Erda rig carried out the trial, proving that the UK’s legacy North Sea gas fields can be safely and efficiently repurposed for carbon storage. This achievement marks a key technical and logistical milestone, involving: • 11 CO₂ shipments and 15 injection cycles • Collaboration across ports, suppliers, and engineering teams • Successful injection of cold liquid CO₂, reducing energy demand and improving efficiency As PortNews highlights, progress in carbon storage is not only about subsurface innovation but about the entire supply chain working together to make it happen. ATCO’s Yellowhead Pipeline project reached a major milestone in August with Alberta Utilities Commission, marking the approval of the Need Assessment and paving the way for the largest infrastructure investment in company history. The 230-kilometre pipeline will deliver over 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day to Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, supporting growing demand for power generation, petrochemical processing, manufacturing and residential use. Mayor Alanna Hnatiw shared, “Natural gas is an integral to all the industrial operations in Sturgeon County and the surrounding area … From fertilizer and plastics to petrochemicals and hydrogen, natural gas is the linchpin for us into the future." This project will enable up to $30 billion in new, industrial, commercial and residential investment. Once the downstream investments are operational, it will support 23,700 jobs annually and add $3.9 billion per year to Alberta’s GDP. 2025 marks 70 years of Hatch driving innovation across Eastern Canada. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reflecting on the projects that helped shape communities—we continue our look back with the major hydropower projects that shaped our energy landscape. Built in the 1960s, the Mactaquac Generating Station in New Brunswick and Churchill Falls. Mactaquac became the largest hydroelectric facility in the Maritimes, delivering 672 MW of clean energy. Our engineering expertise was instrumental in designing and delivering this complex project, which continues to power homes and industries across the province. More than just a power station, Mactaquac marked a turning point in regional energy independence and long-term sustainability. Churchill Falls emerged as one of the most ambitious hydroelectric developments of its time, harnessing the immense power of the Churchill River to deliver over 5,400 MW of clean energy. The Acres Canadian Bechtel consortium acted as agents for Churchill Falls (Labrador) Corporation, overseeing engineering and construction management. This remote and complex project continues to supply electricity across Newfoundland and Labrador and into Québec. The engineering and project management excellence executed on this project by hydropower pioneer, H.G.
