Follow up to our last post. On the lighter side today. Lighter wall pipe and buttweld fitting sizes, Sch Std, 40, 40S, XS, 80 or 80S will usually be tied to an ASME B16.25 Fig 2a bevel. The internal diameter (ID) may not be machined at all on most pipe sizes. BW fittings will see a taper bore to remove excess material left over from forming. Once complete both pipe and fittings conveniently fit up to minimize mismatch based on the nominal ID of the pipe. Nominal ID = Outside diameter of pipe – (2 x’s Average or Nominal Wall Thickness).
