Zanzibar adopts digital payment system for protected areas with BIOFIN support

The island of Zanzibar is moving to a modern digital payment system for its protected areas. This new system, developed with BIOFIN support, is expected to reduce leakages and lost revenue streams, expected to deliver a 3X boost in revenues, enabling a more accurate valuation of Zanzibar’s natural resources, thereby strengthening the argument for their protection. Tune into CNBC Africa's Power Lunch East Africa on Thursday to hear Dr Aboud Jumbe, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage talking about the new digital payment platform in Zanzibar, in conversation with Tabitha Muthoni.
