The University of Oslo is launching a new faculty for global sustainability. As part of the grand opening, I greatly enjoyed a discussion with Kristin Halvorsen (must admit I was slightly star struck meeting my favorite politician of that generation), green politics pioneer Rasmus Hansson of MDG and Elin Lerum Boasson, facilitated by Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (sorely missed by almost all in Norwegian politics). A well known but often forgotten data point worth repeating: 36% of the world's mammals are human. 60% are our domesticated animals. 4% (and rapidly shrinking) are wild animals. Verdane Foundation is proud supporter of the important work done by The Nature Conservancy in Africa, and I look forward to learning more about the impressive efforts of LGT Venture Philanthropy in the Mara soon! As important government funding sources dry up, we in the private sector need to lean in even harder
👏👏👏
Here's a reference for that stat Bjarne Kveim Lie - makes it even more shocking. From this reference: 62% of the world's mammalian biomass was brought into existence for one purpose - for humans to eat. One cannot work with sustainability in a meaningful manner without working on this issue. The list of Environmental and Social issues created by the current industrial model for the production and sale of meat is long. https://ourworldindata.org/wild-mammals-birds-biomass
Well done! 👍
Here here 👏 (and nice art in the background)
Proud of you and the Verdane Foundation! Keep up the good work, the good fight for global sustainability’
Congrats Bjarne Kveim! 🎉
Investing in a world shaped by technology
4moMammals, not animals of course!
