Circle's IPO highlights rising trust in stablecoin markets Brandon Turp ☕️⚡️
2 years the weighting on major indexes will look lile 1999 tech heavy days . Now of crypto exchanges, networks and wallet providers.
Circle going public might just be the moment stablecoins go mainstream-legit. Not just a crypto story—this is a compliance and trust story.
Thanks for sharing—some critical perspectives on Circle/USDC deserve more attention: Circle is not a low-risk investment. For years, it struggled to find a viable business model and only recently benefited from higher bond rates. If rates drop, so could revenue. Tether reported $13B in profit last year; Circle’s earnings are a fraction of that. Liquidity is crucial: USDC’s ~$12B 24 hour l Vol is dwarfed by Tether’s $85B+, giving Tether much greater resilience — with 3-4x MKCP in 24hr vol. The SVB incident exposed USDC’s vulnerability, causing a major depeg. Tether has handled far larger redemptions without similar instability. Regulatory advantages for Circle in the US/EU are fading as competitors adapt. Also, USDC isn’t bankruptcy remote—Circle’s reserves could be tied up in bankruptcy, which isn’t ideal for holders. Great for investors/debtors I guess. Circle may be a solid stock pick, but it’s not the clear stablecoin winner or a low-risk bet. It’s important to look beyond the headlines and consider the real operational and market risks.
Crazy! There were rumours of them getting acquired just a few days back. What an unexpected move
Keep on powering through the noise. This is a good development for the industry in general. More high profile cases like this help the general Web3/4 ecosystems to attract new users, innovators, curious people in general.
Looks like Circle might be the next one to join the S&P 500 after Coinbase.
Yay! Can’t wait to repeat the same mistakes on new payment rails!
Makes it MUCH easier to establish market valuation when they are acquired. Brilliant move by Ripple to wait, purchase price will be WAY cheaper now. The fact that Jeremy said this IPO will help them orchestrate a payment platform was pretty funny…a little late for that, Jer 🤣
