The real problem with travel baseball (and private monetized youth sports teams in general) as I speak from 16 years of experience and watching it evolve: Most people join a team asking, “What can I get out of this?” That mindset is backwards. The real question should be: 👉 “What can I bring to the table every single day?” Teams don’t thrive on selfishness — they thrive on selflessness. You decide how you show up. You decide if you’re a teammate or a taker. At the end of the day, it’s not about trophies, rankings, or going tit-for-tat. It’s about being part of something greater than yourself — whether it’s family, sports, or business. As Philippians 2:3–4 reminds us: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” That’s where true growth — and true leadership — begins. —Coach Matt Diesel | Beyond the Game Zach Lutz Clint Hurdle DICK'S Sporting Goods 4:12 Sports Ministries Clint Hurdle Kevin Wilson Maddie Lewis Soviero Unrivaled Sports #YouthSports #BeyondTheGame #Leadership #AthleteDevelopment #TeamFirst #FaithInAction

With exposure season in full swing, many are wondering if they'll still get noticed by college coaches. The answer is a resounding yes, but preparedness is key. Coaches seek players with a 'dog mentality,' ready for daily challenges. They prioritize rebounders, defenders, shot-blockers, and rim protectors—those who control the paint. Ultimately, coaches seek reliable individuals who enhance team culture. Leadership and trustworthiness are paramount. To catch a coach's eye, consistently perform across all 94 feet of the court and demonstrate you're the missing piece they need. #basketball #recruiting #leadership #teamwork #sports #college

🏒 What happens when we look beyond skill and strategy to the character that drives performance, teamwork, and resilience? This question will take centre stage in "The Character Playbook: From Embedding Character to Shaping the Future of Sport", featuring Corey Crossan Stevens from The Oxford Character Project and Virtuosity Character, and Dixon Ward, former NHL player and VP with Okanagan Hockey Group Inc. Ward emphasizes that true excellence starts from within: “When we dive into the character side of things — which dictates our behaviors, our actions, our attitude, our value systems — and really dig into our moral fabric as human beings and as a group — it became apparent to me that we needed to start at the very top of our organization.” Together, their insights reveal how fostering character in sport can elevate not only athletic performance, but also organizational culture and impact.
