The team at Ethos Cannabis believes medical cannabis care should be rooted in science, not guesswork. In her latest op-ed, Brooke Worster, MD, FACP, Chief Medical Consultant at Ethos Cannabis & Enterprise Director of Supportive Oncology at Jefferson Health, shares how Ethos’ partnership with Thomas Jefferson University is generating real-world data to better understand how patients use cannabis—and translating those insights into education, product development, and improved patient care. By aligning healthcare providers, dispensary staff, and researchers, we’re working to bridge the gap between research and real-world use, ensuring patients receive informed, compassionate guidance. 📖 Read Dr. Worster’s full piece to see how Pennsylvania’s program can set a national example for cannabis research and care: https://lnkd.in/gvwcSnqU

The week, #AAM commented on the Colorado Prescription Drug Affordability Board’s announcement to propose a price cap for a specific brand drug medication. “A competitive market is a better solution to lower costs than the government deciding what it's going to pay,” said John Murphy III, President and CEO of the Association for Accessible Medicines. “Generic and biosimilar medicines always save patients money and are the only facet of the healthcare system where prices continue to go down... The answer is reforms and regulations that stay true to the spirit of Hatch-Waxman, the law that empowered generic medicines, and BPCIA, the biosimilar equivalent. Patent thickets, PBMs, and regulatory delays are all symptoms of a broken system.”

$98 billion. That was U.S. out of pocket spending for prescription drugs in 2024. The difference between a non-preferred brand and preferred can be tens or even hundreds of dollars per prescription. For payers and patients alike, the difference can be enormous, but only if they know there are alternatives at the right moment. Real-Time Prescription Benefit technology can deliver this information at that moment: within the prescriber's workflow, when the doctor is seeing the patient. Patient-specific coverage, alternatives, copay, etc. So patients avoid surprise costs, providers make more informed choices, and patients get on and stay on therapy. But here’s the rub: two recent studies on RTPB’s real-world impact came to massively conflicting conclusions. One found little measurable impact. The other found significant improvements. So…which is it? I’ll be moderating a webinar next week where we’ll unpack the evidence and hear from experts around tactics to increase provider engagement to drive real world impact.
