🎓 The Number Game is Killing Academic Quality 📉 Lately, a worrying trend has emerged — several academic conference teams are commercialising book chapter publications under the banner of “Scopus” or “indexed volumes.” This shift from scholarly contribution to commercial transaction is not just unethical — it’s dangerous for academia. 🚫 🔍 When conference teams start monetizing book chapters: • The peer review process becomes diluted or entirely absent. • Quality takes a back seat to quantity and profit. • Young researchers are misled into believing that paying ensures credibility. True academic progress is built on rigor, reflection, and relevance — not revenue. The obsession with numbers — citations, indices, counts — is slowly replacing the pursuit of knowledge, ethics, and integrity. It’s time for us, as educators, reviewers, and scholars, to ask: 👉 Are we encouraging learning or just listing publications? 👉 Shouldn’t conferences focus on ideas that inspire, not indices that sell? Let’s bring back quality over quantity and protect the sanctity of research. #AcademicIntegrity #ResearchEthics #HigherEducation #ScholarlyPublishing #Scopus #AcademicQuality

It's #PeerReviewWeek and this paper by Aileen Fyfe and colleagues from 2017 is always a great reminder. Citing Baldwin, the paper shares: "Refereeing, or – as it increasingly became known – ‘peer review’, became the way for publishers to legitimise their journals as venues for high-quality original research (Baldwin, 2015)." And legitimizing means it can create a commercial market. https://lnkd.in/gFRDudZ5
