Calgary is taking another bold step forward in strengthening Canada’s defence and innovation capabilities. The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) is investing up to $1 million in the Xpand Commercialization Hub by ConvergX — a $9 million initiative supported by Prairies Economic Development Canada I Développement économique Canada pour les Prairies and Boeing Canada Operations Limited to accelerate the commercialization of dual-use technologies for both civilian and defence applications. Now, this investment helps them get those innovations to market faster — supporting proven, later-stage companies with targeted programming to scale and deploy their technologies at a global level. This three-year project will help Calgary companies scale faster, attract investment, and create high-value jobs in sectors like defence, aerospace, energy, life sciences, cybersecurity, and agriculture — reinforcing Calgary’s position as a NATO-aligned innovation hub.
